What Labour's new Climate Policy means for me?

This week, the Labour Party lead by Bill Shorten announced a new Climate Policy ahead of the May 2019 Australian Federal Election.  Though the detail wasn’t fully explained, the key elements were:

  • 45% reduction in Australia’s pollution by 2030, and net zero pollution by 2050

  • 50% target for renewable energy by 2030.

The Relevance

The Labour Party are proposing to offer:

  • $2,000 in battery rebates for 100,000 households, and

  • Doubling the Clean Energy Finance Corp to create more jobs in the sector

The Significance

Qualified residential customers have never had it better, especially in the state of Victoria where residential customers now get:

  • (State) Solar Panel Rebates $2,225 until 30th June 2019

  • (State) Solar Battery Rebate, upto $4,838 for 10,000 units from 1st July 2019

  • (Federal) Solar Battery Rebate, $2,000 for 100,000 units (provided the Labour Party wins May 2019’s election)

This is on top of incentives received for STC’s from your solar installation which can be anywhere from $1,500 for smaller systems to beyond $6,000 for large residential installations.

The Recommendation

My advice to my customers is to get your solar installations now before of 30th June 2019 deadline.

Ensure your system is home battery compatible with a hybrid inverter and once the 2019/2020 financial year ticks over, have your home battery installed once the rebates kick in.
